DJ AND PRODUCER PLS&TY IS ON A MISSION TO RADIATE POSITIVITY THROUGH DANCE MUSIC
The creative path is one that intrinsically takes many twists and turns, especially for those with interests across the board. For Florida-born DJ and producer PLS&TY, his creative nature initially gravitated towards a love of filmmaking and photography. His passion for documenting the world around him soon evolved into sound-tracking it as well, leading him to find his footing in electronic dance music.
Throughout his career, PLS&TY has learned how to express himself in a multitude of ways, whether in his vibrant DJ sets or through collaborations with others in the studio, all while placing an emphasis on writing and amplifying music that aims to uplift others. As exemplified throughout his creative ventures, PLS&TY aims to cultivate a safe space for listeners to get lost in or find joy in, channeling the healing and transformative power of music to connect one another.
Since first releasing his music in 2016, PLS&TY has gone on to captivate crowds across the globe and earn a variety of impressive accolades, with his latest EP debuting at the top of the iTunes electronic album charts. For his newest offering, an EP titled Very Special, PLS&TY enlists a slew of guest artists, including renowned “Island Pop” hitmaker Sean Kingston, British soul singer Kyan and more. The 4-track collection furthers PLS&TY’s mission to put out good energy, encouraging others to find solace in how music can bring us all together, especially in troubling times.
Following his new release, PLS&TY took a moment to talk more with the DropLabs team about how his career has organically unfolded throughout the years and what inspires him to keep moving forward.
What exactly do you do and what helped you get started?
I am a music producer and DJ fortunate enough to have discovered the world of electronic dance music and the artists that keep it alive. Involving myself in a community of hard-working individuals traveling the world to perform for crowds chanting their names, I have received support from industry greats, signed major record label deals before even reaching my 21st birthday, and toured places some can only fantasize about.
My music has amassed tens of millions of plays, garnered a significant following across social media platforms, made its way into television commercials, and granted me opportunities to work alongside top studio engineers and producers. Such opportunities have only enhanced my capability of collaborating with and accepting all individuals. These opportunities have provided me with a foundation to establish lifelong relationships and granted me access to see the awe-inspiring marvels that our world contains because of simple, yet paramount, items in my life: a DJ mixer and laptop computer.
My passion for electronic dance music grew throughout high school. At the time, I was incredibly passionate about filmmaking, as well, and I was eager to combine these interests. I picked up jobs at local venues, photographing and filming electronic acts that would pass through on tour. Filming these acts and working with notable dance music artists was a great introduction to the world of live performance and everything it entails. Nonetheless, my transition into music production seemed to flow seamlessly as my obsession with this style of music continuously grew. Eventually, I had to try a hand at music production myself.
Did you have a moment of recognition that helped you realize you wanted to pursue music in a more serious capacity?
I wouldn’t say there is one moment in particular that helped me realize I wanted to pursue music in a more serious capacity. There have been a culmination of great successes and opportunities that continue to propel me forward, including a collection of chart-topping singles, "Good Vibes" (#1 on iTunes US Electronic Charts), "Down For Me," "Rebel Love" (#1 on iTunes US Electronic Charts), and "Motives" (#1 on iTunes US Electronic Charts / Top 25 Billboard Electronic Charts). Moreover, having my productions remixed by Grammy-nominated Morgan Page, Rusko, Cazzette, Bondax, YehMe2 (Josh from Flosstradamus' latest venture), among others, is inspiring. My remix of Genevieve's "Colors" was featured in a Hershey's chocolate television commercial that has amassed over one billion views which is notable.
How would you explain the DropLabs experience to your friends?
No words. You have to get a pair and experience these for yourself.
What surprised you the most about trying out DropLabs Technology?
The first time I tried the shoes on, my face lit up with excitement. The speakers within the shoes are incredibly powerful. If you want to truly feel the music, then these are for you.
What do you feel is the most rewarding part of being an artist?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is seeing how your work can have an impact on others. For me, what urges me to continue creating art is knowing that someone out there may resonate with it and admire it enough to be inspired themselves.
What are you currently working on?
My latest project, the Very Special EP, just dropped. It features pop records with artists like Sean Kingston, Wifisfuneral and Alex Aiono (of Netflix’s “Finding Ohana”). The EP received a premiere with Forbes and peaked at #1 on iTunes Electronic album charts!
